How to avoid overdrafts? You have options.

At one time or another, many of us will overdraw our checking account. But this doesn’t mean our check has to bounce. Peoples Bank offers several ways to prevent it.

  • Savings Account: Your checking account can be linked so we automatically withdraw any overdraft amount from your Peoples Savings Account. This option is the least costly but it requires you to maintain funds in an accessible savings account.

  • Line of Credit: You may open a Redi-Advantage line of credit and link your checking account to cover any overdrafts. Essentially, you’re giving yourself the ability to write yourself a loan just by writing a check. You pay no interest unless you withdraw money. If you tend to make impulsive purchases, this option may not be best for you. Other resources are available at www.mymoney.gov. If you decide to apply for a line of credit, contact us for more information.
  • No Bounce: Among our customers, No Bounce overdraft protection is the most popular safeguard against bounced checks and declined ATM or debit cards. It doesn’t cost anything unless you use it. But if you make a habit of overdrawing, fees and charges from us and the merchant can get hefty. New banking regulations that went into effect in August require that we get your permission to continue your No Bounce Overdraft Protection on everyday debit card and ATM transactions — even if you’ve had No Bounce in the past. No Bounce customers may opt-in online here. If you don’t have No Bounce and are interested, contact us for more information.
