During Rotary Night activities Tuesday, May 24, Newton-Conover Rotary Club presented the Charles R. Corriher Vocational Service Award to Tony W. Wolfe, president and CEO of Peoples Bank and Peoples Bancorp of North Carolina, Inc.
“The man who has been selected is an individual who exhibits serious and quiet dignity and the business-like demeanor we have come to associate with leaders in the banking community,” said B. Stuart Terry, the club’s vocational service award committee chair describing Wolfe.
Terry continued, “At the same time, he has extended himself beyond the boundaries of his profession to assume challenges of citizenship in worthwhile community endeavors. He carries the distinction of heading [Peoples Bank] the only locally-owned bank in Catawba County, a venerable institution established in the town of Catawba more than a century ago. Since he became president and CEO, he has overseen expansion from seven banking institutions to 22 sites, with coverage growing from two counties to seven counties.”
Wolfe is a native of Albemarle, NC. He came to Catawba County as a student at Lenoir-Rhyne University. He is a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate College, the Carolina School of Banking at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge.
Earlier this year, Wolfe was named Business Leader of the Year by Lenoir-Rhyne University. He serves on the institution’s board of trustees and holds Board of Directors positions with United Way of North Carolina, Catawba County Foundation and the Catawba Valley Medical Foundation. In addition to membership in Newton-Conover Rotary, he is a member of Catawba County Economic Development Corp. and Catawba Country Club.
